Is it wrong for Donald Trump to try to get something—anything—done in Washington?

Ordinarily I like the elitists over at National Review Online. They’re generally great thinkers, all advancing the conservative cause.

But they tend to get a little confused when it comes to talking about the “G”.

Take today for instance. Jim Geraghty, a personal fav of mine, criticized President Trump for sitting down to talk with the Democratic leadership on the immigration issue.

What happened?

The Ugly Truth About Freedom

Posted: 20th August 2017 by Chuck in freedom
There’s a hard reality that needs to be faced in the aftermath of Charlottesville.

“I hate Illinois Nazis”
– Joliet Jake Blues.

So do I.

In fact, I don’t really like any kind of nazis.

There’s nothing redeeming whatsoever about a nationalist / supremacist philosophy.

It’s a philosophy of hate. The hatred of everything that’s not you or just like you.

I really don’t get how anyone can live with that kind of hate. With that much hate floating your boat, there’s little hope for you ever joining the real world.

It’s a despicable philosophy, the expression of which is truly disgusting. And that’s why this is such a hard post for me to come to grips with.

Because it involves a reality that’s hard for me to swallow. It sticks in my throat like a sideways chicken bone.

But here’s the thing.

Complaints Of Rigged Processes Deprive Us Of Something Far More Important

I read a particularly thought provoking article the other day.

It seems the political landscape of late has been plagued with complaints of “rigging”. You know… “the fix is in” type stuff.

“Pssst, Rocky’s taking a dive in the 5th.”

The pre-determined outcome.

Which makes the actual contest little more than a side show.

But beyond all the complaining was an underlying message that caught my attention…

Why Party Platforms Ain’t Such a Big Deal

The conventions are coming (and these last couple posts were clearly published out of order) and the parties are hammering out their platforms.

That “…formal set of principal goals which are supported by a political party or individual candidate, in order to appeal to the general public, for the ultimate purpose of garnering the general public’s support and votes…”

They’re those looooong documents (that hardly anyone in the voting public ever reads) that party wonks and higher-ups wrangle over to attract various segments of their constituencies.

Just one thing

The Republican Circus Is Coming To Town

(Or Is It The Carnival Freak Show?)

Ladies and gentlemen… Children of all ages!

If you will… direct your attention to the center ring where you will bear witness to one of the most extraordinary spectacles known to man…

A dazzling display of derring-do that will shock and amaze you…

That will have you glued to the very edge of your seat…

Well, maybe not.

Tonight opens the annual circus known as the Republican National Convention. (The Democratic circus will be rolling into Philly next week.) And this year’s promises to be more entertaining than most…

Because the main attraction in the center ring is a freak show that nobody in charge of the circus wanted. The businessman long on bullying rhetoric and apparently short on political skills. The Donald.

Still they’re giving in and giving him top billing. Because not doing that would be even worse…

Not Satisfied With Ducking and Dodging, The DNC Shows Its Utter Contempt for We the People

If you blinked, you missed it.

But it does deserve a slightly closer look.

Because what it reveals is the contempt that party leaders hold for the public at large. This time it was the democrats turn…

How The GOP Elite Is Planning To Screw Up Their Party Again…

Depending on who you ask, Donald Trump may be the worst thing that could ever happen to our country.

Then again… maybe not.

I can’t be sure.

The only thing we can be sure of is that he is the great unknown.
